Mavis Gail Crooms is a survivor, author, and advocate who turned unimaginable trauma into a powerful testimony of truth and resilience. After surviving abduction, violence, and institutional failure, she chose to speak not only for herself, but for those whose voices were taken from them.

Through Not My Fault, Mavis confronts the realities of victim-blaming, injustice, and survival, while emphasizing faith, strength, and the refusal to surrender dignity. Her story serves as both a warning and a source of hope, reminding readers that survival is possible and that truth has power.

Mavis Gail Crooms was raised in a disciplined and hardworking household. Her mother was a schoolteacher in New Orleans, Louisiana, who also owned and operated her own beauty parlor. In addition to teaching and entrepreneurship, she was a skilled seamstress who made clothing and hats. Her father served in the military, instilling structure, resilience, and strength within the family.
